Hi all, I'm new here and I am planning a simple dinner with my wife tomorrow. We're having grilled lamb chops and salad. What wine would you recommend?

I only have Merlot now. What would be a good meal to go with that?

Those are very basic questions I'm sure but I hope you'll be patient with me.

Thanks.

Ken

Hi Ken_ang, and welcome to the Wine Board. If you can find a simple Cotes du Rhone, that would be ideal. Otherwise look for a first or second tier Australian Shiraz. Would have the merlot with a lighter meat such as ground beef or veal.

Hi Innkeeper,

Thanks for the quick reply. Besides ground beef and veal, would a chicken meal suit the Merlot? My wife and I eat chicken a lot especially me. I love fried chicken.

It would go fine with sauteed chicken thighs.

I'm with IK. We eat a lot of grilled lamb chops and we prefer Rhone wines.
