I just saw a commercial for a refrigerator with a flat screen TV in the door (from LG). The pitch was, "your two favorite things without moving a step" as in now you can eat and watch TV without even getting up to get the Hagendaaz.

That is a definite bad thing. Our kids are distracted enough by TV; they don't really need more while they're in the kitchen. These are the same folks who make my cell phone, as well as a raft of other stuff. Lucky Goldstar is the consumer electronics and appliance giant of Korea and spreading worldwide.

And we had trouble locating a side-by-side refrigerator that did NOT come with an automatic icemaker. We were told "everyone wants the icemaker."" "Not us." was our response.

I have always been of the opinion that joining functions in any electronic gadget reduces the quality and performance of the overall gadget. The only difference in my belief is shown with this fridge/tv thing: by its very pairing with a necessity, it raises the tv up a notch in its usefulness...

Stupid idea, but it will sell. As HL Mencken once said: no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

Never thought we would like an icemaker in a fridge until be bought a new one five years ago with one inside. Love it.

I can think of at least one worse place for a tv screen (in the driver's view in an automobile--they have those now too!)
