This was so funny, I had to share. Apparently my habits are watched quite closely. The other night my son who is 6 asked if he could have his milk in a wine glass, I said OK, and dug out an old, thick glass from the back of the wineglass stash, poured in about 1/2 a glass and set it in front of him. He picked it up, stared at it, stuck his nose in, set it back on the table, and to top it off, did a gentle table top swirl!

Great Story!

Similar event a few days ago. My son (age 5) generally only sees me drink about once a week but this time it got his curiosity. "Can I have a taste?". "No but you can smell it"....

Then I asked him what he smelled. Now he has never read a TN before nor have I described the taste of wine to him before.

This is what he said

"Smells like....cherry, rasberry,...its fruit dad....." Then he smells some more... "smells like the red stuff you put ourside on the front yard (cedar mulch),....

I couldn't believe it. I nearly let him taste it. I know that young kids palates are much more sensitive than ours (1/2 of our taste buds are gone) but I never expected this...

Agin....I love it whenced the lads and lassies start early. IMHO it would have been great to pour a small amount in a wine glass and add water, ala the French. Then he mite have picked up the cassis, black fruits, etc. WW

WW, not just the French--my first glass of wine was cut with water. I think I was 6 at the time.

You guys should give them a taste!

Incidentally, I am so used to swirling I do it with my coffee and even my glass of water...

I also tend to swirl just about everything I hold in my hand. I was also amazed at my sons ability to correctly identify smells. I too let him smell the wine and he usually just says mmmmmm! My wife may have a hard time letting him actually try some. we'll see.

On the other side of this. I can't tell you how many times, unconsciously, I have drawn air in with my coffee! I laugh when I realize what I'm doing!
