Anybody been reading the weather reports from out here lately? I don't know about the rest of the country, but this is the wierdest , non-typical weather we've had.

What kind of affect is this having on the grape crops? Any prediction if this is going to be a "good year" or a "bad year"?

Well KC, much cooler then usual with quick spikes into the hotter ranges. I'd say mid 80's to low 90's. I think we've had 2-3 days in the high 90's to 100's since April.

Now?

Not that I'm complaining about the weather, I was just wondering if there is going to be an adverse affect in the vineyards. We're at least 10deg cooler than usual.

I know that temp and terrior are important to quality and yields. Weather plays a key factor. I'm guessing that this is not going to make for a "good" year. Or at least a low yield at best. Weather is substancially cooler than normal. We had some hot flashes in April, earlier than most years. I would guesstimate 10* cooler right now at the least.

Anybody? Maybe Gene?

That weather may be more prevalent where you are. Here's what David Coffaro says about where he is:

"I see color!! Yes, verasion is upon us. Some of our Peloursin and Zinfandel berries have turned purple. This is two weeks before normal and four weeks ahead of last year. We will most likely be harvesting Zinfandel in the last few days of August."
