Well it is partly sunny and 49 degrees here in the Olympia area. Regular shirtsleeve weather as I played catch with the dog. It is time to kick back and get ready for some college football, namely the USC/OR State game and the OU/Kansas State game. And how are you easterners faring. You can gloat all you want, Bucko. I'm having a great day. A party I didn't want to go to was canceled, so now I've got Christmas tunes on the stereo, cookies in the oven, a fire in the fireplace and a glass of wine in my hand. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Snowstorm Pummels Northeastern U.S.
At Least Eight Deaths Blamed on Storm
By ROGER PETTERSON, AP

(Dec. 6) -- Highways and sidewalks turned treacherous Saturday for the millions of people living in the Northeast as the region's first big storm of the season piled up a foot of blowing snow, grounding airline flights, taking a bite out of pre-Christmas shopping, and canceling SAT exams.

Sounds like you are getting pummeled as bad as my Sooners got whupped by K-State. Hope everyone is safe and sound.

We faired out better than expected, or maybe we're becoming used to a lot of snow. Anyway, we have about 8" on the ground here. This system was strange, a lot of snow, some mixed and rain, then more powdery snow. The little rain we got helped diminish the total amount.

Well, let's see...the snow started here in upstate New York very late Friday night, snowed all day yesterday, stopped for a brief period around 1 a.m. this morning, but now it is full force again. So far, we've gotten about 20 inches here. Have my fireplace going and I'm working my way through my wine rack! As long as I don't have to move it or drive through it, it's great to light some candles & the fireplace, and watch it come down! Now there's a good question...what wine goes best with snow? Eiswein, of course! or if you're looking to warm your cockles, a couple of glasses of Port will do nicely!

Did someone say "Cockles"!?!

Eiswein is a good one, Georgie. And at this time of year, a really good Tannin Bomb (Tannenbaum) is appropriate....
