Today's soldier

I looked up the article last Friday. Very moving. As I mentioned before, I have seen some of the soldiers come back from Afghanistan and Iraq with prosthetics or burns on the face, etc. Then there are the ones like this soldier that are damaged more emotionally or mentally than physically. The sacrifices are very real and often very permanent.

No one goes to war and comes back unchanged. Some take longer to heal than others. Faith, family and fortitude can play huge roles in the process.

That's so true. My father worked with the medics during WWII. He NEVER spoke about the things he saw. I remember him having nightmares and eventually a nervous breakdown. For those of us who have never experienced the horrors of war, it is very hard to imagine.

And you can say that again.

Another subject: Georgie, glad to see your head is still above water. Same here, although our lovely little trout stream is a raging torrent. It did stay in its bank.

My brother-in-law lives across the street from the Westfield River out in the Berkshires, which flooded this past week. He came out the morning after the water receded and found two trout on his front walk.
