$14 from Garagiste.

First time I've had this region or grape (gros and petite Manseng).

Really interesting bottle of wine here.
It strikes me as being a bit like cross between chenin and sauv blanc.

It's fairly weighty and intense, but the strong acidity makes it feel lighter than it is. There's some waxy nuttiness, a strong citrus component, and a unique sourness I haven't noted in a wine before.

The nose is very Vouvray like in that there's a rich honeyed-component as well. It's dry, but very rich all around.

All in all, I love this wine for $14, and wish I had bought a case of it.

How is its depth of color? Gros Manseng is a vin gris kind of grape, with good tannin for a white wine.

I was surprised at how dark it was for a fairly young wine. I remember it being pretty golden.
It was fairly heavy, yet I didn't detect anything that I connected with oak.

Vouvrayhead,

The tannin is from the grapes. Like Gewurztraminer, Gros M is a pinkish/grayish grape. A little skin contact before fermentation can draw out color and some tannin.

Very interesting. I ought to read up a bit more about this region/grape. I really enjoyed the wine.
