Heard that the 2001 Rhone's were gonna be really good and if u can find any they should be snapped up...so by chance i saw this in the store for 7 bucks so i bought. Anyone know anything about this Rhone? How long should i sit on it? Any info would help thanks.

We've had several of the Guigal '01s since the first of the year. The tannins are melting away fairly quickly on this one, IMHO. I'll probably be drinking this over the next year or so.

I would agree with the drinking of the 2001's now. 2002 was a poor year in CDR and the 2003 are highly anticipated (i.e. higher price). That and with the exchange rate issues may have resulted in someone saying to you that you should buy 2001's from a value and quality given what is already on the market.

Guigals Cote Rotie, Hermitage, St Josepfs & CDPs'are superior wines. I've been an ardent collector of his wines since the outstanding 78s. The CDRs are earily drinkers as pointed out. WW

Kcwhippet - do you think the 98 Brune et Blonde has come out of its sleeping phase? Or has it not entered it yet? Or is it "immune" to sleep? (is there such a thing) I have three bottles and I can't wait to drink them but the dumb phase issue has made me gun-shy lately.

It was a bit dumb when I opened it so I decanted to get some air into it and seemed to do the trick.

Wines age through a negative parabolic curve. When they are below the line, or worst at the bottom of the curve, they are in a sleeping or dumb phase.
