Got a 2001 in this cuvee by doing a little horse tradin with my buddy in central Cali. I gave him a few bottles of my favorites (Benard Feurie, Pax, JC Cellars, etc.) and he gave me a few of his Storr's, David Bruce, La Rusticana, etc.). This is his on-going effort to try to educate me on the great wine that is being made in Central California, his backyard.

Dark fruit on the nose of black cherry and spice. Has a real "central coast" fruit aroma that is just wonderful. I am not sure how to describe it, but it is a darker and deeper nose that I have found to be consistent with the better wines I have tried from Carmel. IOW, it is not the bright ruby cherry (sweeter?) Napa / Sonoma aroma.

On the palate it just has a wonderful deep flavor of black fruit, spice, white pepper, game and then a little bright fruit on the the finish with interesting complexity. Great wine.

I highly recommend that you Rhone guys take a look at Parsonage. It is 15% alcohol, though not hot. Costs about 35 bucks retail per bottle. Well worth it.

This wine is nowhere near showing signs of age. I bought a case of the 04 and this wine tells me to not touch them for a couple years (if I can keep my hands off them).

Mark
