Was looking forward to this vintage as have heard good things to come from California in '01. Medium ruby/garnet in color. Same Rhoney D'Oakley nose of bright and dark fruit, earth and spice with a touch of cinammon as in previous vintages. Like flavors but the entry was somewhat thin/diluted but then the flavors build and finish long. A nice wine for the $'s, not quite as nice as previous vintages but still good QPR and a wine that pairs well with many dishes. $6.99, 13.5%Alc/vol.

Got some last evening to try, but haven't yet. Anyway, the bottles I picked up just have Cline Oakley Vin Rouge. Do yours really have Cotes D'Oakley on the label, Drew? If so, I wonder why the difference.

I dint even notice they dropped the cotes d' from the name. How bout that, you're right. No wonder the wine tasted different . I just resurrected this old thread and posted my notes....my bad.

Try these on for size then - 2001 Ca' del Solo Big House Red and the 2000 E. Guigal Cotes de Rhone. Both at $13.99 per with mixed case discount. (And yes, I realize the E. Guigal is French not Californian. But you know I have a leaning toward wines from the Rhone and from the Rhone Rangers....... and Bonny Doon.)

A bit more expensive than the Cline, but based on what you said, these wines should be fuller and brighter on your palate.
