OH....MY.....GOD!!!!! Haven't had one of these in a loooong while. Inky black purple in the glass. Big nose of black fruit, chocolate, coffee, roasted meat. Rich, lush, ripe plum and currant, coffee and mocha chocolate, a little tar and pepper right out of the gate. A very big wine which overwhelmed the peppered pork tenderloin we paired with it. After a couple of hours it changed from the Incredable Hulk to a Debonair Hulk of refined background. Smooth, balanced and delicious. From vinyards in St. Helena, California. Alc. 14.5% and a whoping $13.50 case price.

Is this stuff easy to find? It sounds great, but it's not listed on the Web site for Sam's in Chicago.

As a follow up this is what Parker has to say about this wine from issue #139, 2-28-02, which I just got around to reading!
"Another super value. This excellent 2000 is a hedonistic Syrah fruit bomb. Dense purple-colored, with seamlessly integrated tannin and acidity, this ripe, medium to full bodied, rich effort is not complex, but it is loaded with fruit. Enjoy it over the next several years." 88 pts.

Well I survived the entire winter without a cold/virus/flu until now. Got some kind of virus bug that's left me achy all over sooooo I needed some comfort food. Slow roasted a beef brisket to fork tender, roasted some yukon gold taters and made a magical gravy from the essence. Popped one of these Stratford Syrahs which paired wonderfully with the fixins. This is a wonderful Calif. syrah that's everything and a bag of chips! BTW, one of my fav wine stores, knowing how I love the Stratford, sold me their remaining bottles for $10 per. I must be a great customer! All I need now is Mom.....
