1996 Ridge, Syrah, Lytton Estate - Very intense, grapey nose, with lots of sweet blackberry fruit, black pepper, smoke, floral, and lots of oak, including dill, whiskey, and harsh wood aromas. Same in the mouth, with wonderful, jammy, blackberry fruit, black pepper, flowers, and lots of whiskey barrel, dill, and harsh wood flavors. The fruit is excellent in this wine, but I'm wondering if it will ever shine over the oak?
I hate to see fruit this good take a back seat to wood flavors. Approx..85-87.

Eno, if this is their ATP Syrah, I've tried it, and I have to disagree with your description of it as overoaked. Intensely tannic and peppery, yes---this wine tastes more like their York Creek Petites than anything else---but not overoaked with dill notes, at least for my palate. When Jake tasted it, he remarked to me that Bucko had a good reason to be pissed that they sent him two merlots in the ATP shipment, instead of one and one.
Just my 0.02,

Yep, this is the ATP wine. I loved the fruit in it, but it just had too much wood. I'd really like to try it in 5 years, but I'm not sure I want to pay for it!
