Well, I am branching out--Rhones, Italians, Austrians, and Symphony grape in recent days.
Had a 1.5 oz. pour ($4.25) of this Condrieu at Vin Enoteca Restaurant in Raleigh, NC. Had to look up name to verify varietal (Viognier) and region (Rhone).
When poured had bubbles around the edges of glass. Pale gold? (lighting was too dim to get a true fix on the color) Viscous.
Nose: flower, clover scents, smells sweet
Taste: more balanced with acidity than aroma suggests. Some smokiness but less than the Puligny-Montrachet I also tasted. An herbal undertone that reminds me of Ricola Cough
Drops (mountain herbs). I had this while eating appetizer of risotto with prosciutto, English peas and citrus. It was an unexpected nice match of smoky elements of condrieu with smoked meat. Try it sometime!
This beat the heck out of the Georges du Boeuf Viognier I bought at the grocery store.
