Found an Interesting Wine

Good Day,

I happened across a bottle of Cuvee Du Vatican, Chateauneuf-Du-Pape, 1964 a few days ago, and I've been wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this wine? As far as I know, it has been in an old basement for approx 25-30 years.

Hi ther Newguy and welcome to the board. Have never encountered a Vatican bottling but would imagine it was bottled for the High Churches cellars. Should be fun to pop the cork on that whizzer. WW At first glace thot you were our old friend NewsGuy from Florida.

This comes in two versions - the regular and the Reserve Sixtine. The Reserve can easily go for more than 25 years with proper cellaring and still give back some wonderful Grenache fruit. The regular bottling can be quite a stunner with some age, but I'm not too sure about 39 years' worth. It would be fun to give it a try though.

I've gone around to a few local wine shoppes and gourmet stores, and it seems that everyone I ask about the wine is rather stunned that I found something like this. Though I still have not found anyone that could attach a value to this bottle. At the same time, no one has really known if this is something that should be held on to or drank soon.

Even if it has value, it won't make you rich. But the wine could be quite an experience--and a unique one at that.
