I think that this wine may have had some faults as there was mold on the cork and it was very moist.

The colour also showed a bit of oxidation....what is it this weekend....

Regardless, the wine did not appear to be too bad for the wear (glad I did not keep this one longer).

Good dense apple and grapefruit nose with a supple mouthfeel. Taste of apple, honey, grapefruit. Good mineral notes with a great LONG finish. $27.

Gonna have to open up another see if this was typical of the taste. Otherwise pretty good!

Much nicer second bottle. Mouthfeel is much different, Very supple. Hints of pineapple now too. Much more crisp despite a very heavy mouthfeel. Great long finish.

2005 Johannishof, Rheingau, Riesling Kabinett, Johannisberg (G) ($16 Kappy’s). Alcohol level: 10%. We picked this up in ’06 on the way back from the Boston Flower Show.

It gives you a blast of citrus and under ripe pears on the nose and upfront. There is more fruit including grapefruit and guavas along with a distinct minerality and crisp acidity in middle, and the finish lingers on and on. We haven’t had a wine like this since we lived in Germany in the sixties.

We matched it with mussels steamed in white wine, fish stock, garlic/shallots, and herbs; crusty bread, and salad with orange vinaigrette. Wonderful!

Sounds like a great bottle! Nice when a bottle brings back some memories.
