Rheingau, Germany
3-oz. pour at Gramercy Tavern, NYC
Very pale lemon color. Nice delicate white stonefruit nose. Slightly citric also. More white peach than citrus on the palate. Glides down smoothly and easily and too swiftly. Tastes a little sweeter than I would expect from a kabinett. I would say Leitz is still on a very successful run of vintages judging just from this one example. Delightful!

Rheingau Kabinetts are my favorite Germans by category. How much did this one run?

I think I paid $6.00 for a 3 oz. pour at expensive NYC restaurant. wine-searcher.com shows for about $13-$17 a bottle. Well worth it. Good QPR for those who enjoy German Riesling (and there should be many more that do).

So, if they're charging $2 an ounce for the pour, that's about $50 for about a $15 retail bottle. Of course, they don't pay retail - probably about $9. Not a bad margin!! That about right, Brappy?

Yeah, KC, but think of what the real estate costs them! I got into a discussion with the taxicab driver on the way to LaGuardia and described my two bedroom, two bath condo purchase--he said it would cost over one million dollars for sure in New York City. Also they have to pay the chef, kitchen crew, waiters, etc. more than in most cities.
