It was a very nice tasting. Vega Sicilia's Export Manager was in and discussing the wines. She did a fantastic job.

Vega Sicilia showed both its Spanish and Hungarian lines. The Spanish ones are listed here. My a favorite was the 94 Unico followed by the Valbuena though the Alion was very nice.

Bodegas Pintia Toro 2002

It is an opaque ruby/purple in color, with a new world nose of blackberries, toast, coffee and cedar wood. On the palate, much the same with a nice density of flavors and very approachable. $39.99 per bottle

Bodegas Alion Ribero del Duero 2000

Definitely a bit more muscular than the Pintia, the wine here is a bit less forward a even a bit gamey. Love the flavours, more opaque than the Pintia, still very approachable but more stuffing in this one. $50.99 per bottle.

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5 Ano 2000

Deep, dark purple garnet, opaque. Nose is large and expansive is the only way I know how to say this. Loaded with dark fruits and cassis, tobacco, and a spiciness. Nicely balanced with great acidity, medium to full-bodied. Looks to be built to last a bits $112 per bottle

Vega Sicilia Unico Ribero del Duero 1994

Wow. This thing is incredible.

Same ruby/purple color and opacity (sp?) as the others, only denser. Great nose of sweet red and dark fruits, definitely oaky but it is the old world style. Spicy, toasted, and some coffee/gamey scents. Same on palate but the wine is definitely well balanced with a great amount of acidity. Had this after I had the 95 and this one is definitely more masculine, more stuffing! $272 per bottle…it better had been….

Vega Sicilia Unico Ribero del Duero 1995

This was nice until I had the 94

More classic in structure, great balanced with good amount of acidity to keep things fresh. Lighter in color and flavor. This wine actually drinks quite well now, though with a good amount of tannins still to resolve. $272 per bottle.

After my third pour of the Vega Sicilia Unico, I started feeling very guilty.... but then again, I was having fun. Nice stuff!
