2005 Mas Donis barrica Old Vines

Have no idea what this is outside of killer. Montsant is also on the label along with 85% grenache and 15% Syrah. Had with some orange stuffed bell peppers filled with ground turkey, fresh basil, crimini mushrooms, mahi onions, and a tad of fresh garlic. Enough grip to handle the stuffing but with enough structure to maybe let this super juice improve for another 2-4. Loads of bang-fer. A reccomendation from John at Vintage wines in San Diego. 90/96 10.49 .14%alc. WW ( Hotsie, Drewkie, Duane....What is this stuff?????)

I've had it and liked it but didn't post on it. Here's what I found.
It's a custom cuvee made for importer Eric Solomon using old-vine Garnacha (80+ years) and Syrah (30+ years). The 2005 Mas Donis Barrica is 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah aged for 8 months in French and American oak before bottling without fining or filtration.
From Catalonia/Tarragona the new appellation (2001) of Montsant, a hundred miles south of Barcelona.

Not familiar with it, I'm afraid. Nice price tag! It's being sold for 5.90 Euros in Köln. The wife and I will be there middle of next month visiting some friends, so I'll try and nab a few bottles.

That's a Rhone-style blend. I haven't had it either, but it sure sounds interesting. Those Spaniards really know how to handle Grenache!

Bought this last weekend and enjoyed it with friends and a BBQ. The nose was massive (cherries?) and wonderful, but the palate disappointed. Didn't really taste much of anything to be honest, though it did seem to get just a little better after about an hour. Just a bit thin and muted. Perhaps it was just me that night, or perhaps my particular bottle. It was worth what I paid for the bouquet alone, though.
