A huge powerful nose jumped out of the bottle when I poured it. Then the swirl and I thought I found the best $11 wine in a long time. Then I sipped it and... and... nada. Gorgeous nose, fantastic color, but not much on the palet. It did come around a bit but never got any king of finish. Interesting enough and gives me an excuse to make my first post in the Spanish area. The grape I never heard of. It's called Monastrell.

Thanks for posting--a warning of sorts. The Spanish Monastrell is the grape known in France and other places as Mourvedre. It is used in the blend for many southern Rhone wines. A website says it originated in Spain. It is also used in Bandol wines.

Fwiw, GAD, I passed on the '04 after a tasting at my favorite wine shop a couple of months ago announcing that it didn't have the stuffing that the wonderful '03 has. It's received high honors but it doesn't do it for me. If you can find the '03 buy it by the truck load if it's a good price. I do so love me some Spanish Monestrell!
