Semillon?

I just bought an Aussie Chardonnay/Semillon blend to try. Can anyone tell me what I might expect? I don't know what Semillon is supposed to taste like, as I have never had it before.

It is a rich wine usually with little wood in it. In addition to Oz, both CA and the NW make several good versions of it. Semillon by itself tastes sweet even when it is dry, and some versions of it will age for several years.

It is a rich and flavorful white, from Rosemount Estate, SE Australia. It is 60/40 Chard/Sem. Tastes like 100% Chard. Very crispy, refreshing, a bit of carbonation on the tongue, citrus, honey, peach, no disernable wood. About $7 if I remember correctly. Very good! I like!

They do make some nice ones in Oz. You may want to try some American ones at the same or close to the same price. A few widely distributed ones from Washington State worth looking for are Columbia Crest, Covey Run, Hogue, and Washington Hills.

IK mentioned the better NW sem/chards, but if you'd like to try some well made NW semillion, look to L'Ecole 41. Lovely stuff.
