Well, what can i tell you about this one? It's the lower-end rnge from Montana, one of the biggest producers in Kiwiland. Made from Chilean and New Zealand grapes, and retails for about NZ$10. I'm drinking a bottle my mother brought over for dinner a few weeks back. (And which we never opened, finishing off my Westbrook Chardonnay instead.)

Oddly, it's not too bad for a budget label. Quite crisp, dry and citrusy. Kind of like biting into a crisp green apple at first. The Montana website mentions gooseberry aromas... I'll have to take their word for it, since I wouldn't know the scent of a gooseberry if it fell out of the sky, landed on my face and started to wiggle.

On the whole, a nice easy-drinker that's easy on the wallet. It'd probably go down well at a summer barbie.

Skeeters tasting notes say: "You buy it, I'll help you drink it!"

I have some gooseberry jam I purchased just waiting for my first bottle of N.Z. Sauvignon Blanc to compare flavors.

Hi Skeets, do you have any idea if it is exported? We always like our friends in other wine producing lands to include that tidbit. P.S. Enjoy your sense of humor, or in puter speak you cause lots of LOL.

According to the Montana website, they're currently exporting their Brancott Vineyards range to the USA and Canada, plus their Stoneleigh label to the Frozen North.

The Timara range is available in the UK and Australia, including a UK-only Merlot/Cab Sav.

The full range is here:

(And no, I'm not employed by Montana, although I'm sure they'll appreciate the free advertising.)
