It was hot in Boston today and rather humid. Friends were coming over to our place to cook dinner together and before we started, we needed to cool everyone down, so we opened up two bottles. 2006 Glenora Seyval Blanc (Fresh, crisp, some lemon, easy drinking) and 2005 Braida Brachetto d'Acqui (pretty garnet color with a nice raspberry nose and taste, nice simple fizz that was popular with everyone thirsty.

Dinner consisted of

Starters
Proscuitto, mission figs and mozzarella pizza
Crab Spinach Dip

The proscuitto, mission figs and mozzarella cheese pizza went into the oven as all of the dinner friends arrived. They were delicious, the first one finished before the second one was even cut apart. The crab spinach dip was full of crab and was very very nice. What a great way to start. These appetizers were paired with whatever remained of the two wines.

For the meal:

Shrimp Greek Salad
Clam, Mussels, Cod and Shrimp on angel hair pasta with a cream saffron sauce
Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops on Crab risotto.
Seared Foie Gras on toast

The Greek salad was given a lot of texture and flavour with the addition of peppers, asparagus and shrimp. The seafood that was on top of the angel hair was like a cataplana. The seared sea scallops started the night looking like a triple stacked burger they were so big. I had planned to pull out a nice 1998 White burgundy but the seafood was so sweet and fresh that I reached for a Sancerre instead (2005 La Chapelle des Augustins Sancerre). The foie gras was pan seared and served with toast and sauternes (2001 Chateau Bel Air Vielles Vignes), really does go well with foie gras, with the acidity cutting through the fatty liver to prepare your mouth for the next bit.

Dessert

Dessert was a nice berry on pound cake and rum raisin ice cream dessert that everyone reached for.
