When I was at Bragg as a newly-minted butter-bar a bazillion years ago, I sat straight up in bed late one night with sudden terrible pain in one tooth. Took only aspirin then went in to dental sick call the next morning. Walking in the door, could hear someone screaming his head off in a back room. Explained my problem to the young medic, he said sure, have a seat, we'll be right with you. The screamer's still going strong. Called me in, sat me in a chair, the dentist looked in my mouth, injected Novacain, said he'd be right back. More screaming. He came back in, said open wide, pulled a hammer and chisel from behind his back and went "BAM!" like Emeril Lagasse. OK, spit, he said, you can go. But Doc, what about the screamer? Oh, he's got the same thing you had.... an impacted wisdom tooth. The only difference is his roots are hooked.

That bugger was still screaming as I walked out the door.

They gave me Darvon but I flushed it down the john and stuck with aspirin. No more problems.
