Cat...I don't think you understand the scope of your question. We don't know where you live (has a great deal to do with what wines are available, and cheeses too, for that matter), what the purpose of the question is (are you planning a party or dinner, or are you just taking wine and cheese because it's healthy?) and are you interested in California, French or Italian wines (there are tens of thousands of wines available in most major markets)...you're just not giving us anywhere to start.

And what's expensive? That's another relative term. To some folks used to drinking jug wines...$10 seems expensive...to a rich man, $100 seems cheap. If we're to help you, you have to give us more specific information.
