Boy, does this bring back memories! I couldn't tell you how much of my dad's wine I drank back in the early 1980's, and good stuff too! Several Bordeaux, names something like Margaux or Rothschild? Oh well.

My question to you is, are you legally old enough to buy wine? If not, my advice to you is to take the tape off the bottle, dump out the colored water and fess up. I think your dad will probably have a lot more respect for you, though you probably will be grounded for at least part of your life. It wouldn't be a bad idea to at least offer to financially make ammends for the bottle. Then he can decide if he wants to replace it.

You may be able to find a replacement for him at www.wine.com, as well as an idea of what it was worth. I think I have a bottle of the 1991 in my cellar, but sorry, I don't want to part with it. How about giving me some tasting notes on the 1989, so I'll know what to expect?
