A gewurtztraminer (that's the grape variety) from the Alsace region of France or from California has been suggested frequently here for spicy foods.

If the chef specifically suggests one with some sweetness, I'd suggest a riesling with a bit of residual sugar. You should be able to find plenty of gewurtztraminers or rieslings in the $10+ range at your local shop.
