The posters are right when they say "rum tastes like rum." Fact is, it's the ONLY thing that tastes like rum. That said, if you don't have access to rum, write your own recipe. With an ingredient other than rum, it will never be able to emulate the old recipe. IMHO, time to move on, write something new. Why not start with ingredients available locally? That's why every area's local cuisine IS their local cuisine.
