Actually, I did think about how some people like to embellish the truth about their wartime experiences. My Dad, who saw some really awful stuff in Okinawa where he worked with the medics, always said never to believe the guys who do all the talking. He NEVER recounted any stories. Like you, it was just too painful for him to think about. His years of nightmares and subsequent nervous breakdown were enough to convince me.
