While researching some activities to use with my class tomorrow, I came across this website. It looks VERY interesting and worthwhile. I hope those of you who are veterans will take a look and consider participating in the project.

Thanks, Georgie. I had heard of the project, but have some reservations about participating. The potential for "identity theft" is one, re-living some pretty hairy times long enough to talk about 'em is another. Then there's the credibility issue.... some of it sounds too much like "tall tales" and verfication isn't likely. So I'll just leave it buried under me bucaneers.

Actually, I did think about how some people like to embellish the truth about their wartime experiences. My Dad, who saw some really awful stuff in Okinawa where he worked with the medics, always said never to believe the guys who do all the talking. He NEVER recounted any stories. Like you, it was just too painful for him to think about. His years of nightmares and subsequent nervous breakdown were enough to convince me.

My dad is like yours, Georgie. To this day he doesn't talk about what he went through in the war. He was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 getting ready to ship out to Wake Island (he didn't go), and except for about 10 months in flight training, getting married and starting me, he spent the rest of the time in the Pacific. He has a bunch of medals and ribbons but I have no idea what he did to get them because he hasn't yet talked about what he did.

Fully agree -- those blowing the most are usually just so much hot air, with no mud on their boots. Those of us who lived the $hit do not care to re-live it.

Agree in full. Most of the people who talk about their wars--or anything else--at length, generally make up a good portion of their stories.
As for me, I want only to remember my Air Force experiences between '66 and '70, not glorify them.

The website appears to be an invitation to b*******,similar to a C.I.B. site I once saw only under the auspices of the Library of Congress. Who in God's name wants to re-live this trash? Moreover, who wants to hear about it?
