1990 B&G CdP

Popped this one and only open tonight. Got a wiff of plum like fruit and barnyard when I popped the cork. Sorry no notes to tell me when it was purchased or how much. But come on, B&G. It was less than $20.00 no doubt.

First sip at room temperature did not prove to be very exciting. Mostly barnyard and a bit of tannin on the swallow.

Put the bottle in the refrigerator and dropped it down a few degrees to about 62.

Nice clear ruby red color in the glass with some hints of brown on the edges. Vanilla and plums on the nose and the palate along with leather, cigarette smoke and still that funky barnyard taste and smell. Nice mouthfeel and a smooth swallow with just a tickle of puckery acid and astringent tannin. Then came the peppery spices and even hints of what seemed to be white chocolate on the finish.

What initially seemed to be a dull drink, when chilled a bit, turned into a nice drink with a bit of complexity and a finish that lasted a good 10 to 15 seconds past the swallow.

This really surprised me, because frankly I thought that a 1990 B&G CdP would have been a dead soldier.
