The German classifications are relevant to the residual sugar left in the wines.There are many great dessert wines produced in the U.s but most winemakers lable them with the amount of residual sugar left at vinification. A little research will tell you what you need to know about these and the great wines of Sauternes, Barsac, etc. winoweenie
