This post could easily go into the "Australia, NZ, South Africa" category -- it's about the Selaks 1999 Marlborough NZ Sauvignon Blanc -- but it is such a great representative of the grape, it belongs in the varietal space.

It has a clean, strong gooseberry/guava nose, which is also reflected on the palate, along with a bit of citrus and a long, herbaceous finish. Excellent acidity. Great with a Chinese noodle, shrimp, snow pea stir-fry. Skillful wine-making going on here, and a feature wine at...

...Foodies' NY wine shop!
(I tried it out on the ol' employee discount!)

At $11 retail, this compares very well to similarly priced NZ SBs, like Stoneleigh, Nobilo and Villa St. Maria. In fact, IMHO, it has the poll position among these fine bargains.

This is one wine I'll be "pushing".

Cheers,
