A clear, brick red. Smells of wood, honey, spice and vanilla. Very full-bodied (obviously), tastes toasty and buttery and shows cherry and orange-peel notes. It's dry compared to some other Banyuls I tasted down there but still sweet enough to match with roquefort as well as chocolate. I drink a little bit of this as an aperitif sometimes, too.
Finishes long with lots of wood. Overall the wood was disappointingly dominating but this is a good, balanced bottle of Banyuls nonetheless. 18.5%, 14 euros.
Is it possible that the wood flavor will calm down if the wine is aged more? I have a second bottle of this and will save it for a few years if that will do any good.
