Let me start by offering up the following disclaimer: I am not a "zin master." <g> I'd prefer to consider myself and "zin enthusiast." ;-)

Anyway, both of these wines are good wines although I like the Preston better myself. The Seghesio is good but don't forget, many of the '96 zins are lighter and more variable in quality. And I think you'll find that with this particular wine, it's a bit lighter than in vintages like '95 or '97.

Preston is always a good producer and they have a prime piece of realestate being in Dry Creek. I can't think of anything they make I don't like.

For my money, buy the Preston, wait for the '97 Seghesios to be released!
