Thanks for the info WW, and RAD, haven't been able to find any of the Italians you recommended. Maybe when we hit the Apple in early October we will. In the meantime here's a truly great Californian. 1997 Easton, Shenandoah Valley California, Barbera, $18.00 www.wine.com . This baby is made from Cooper Ranch grapes in the Amador hills. Offers ripe berries and plums upfront, continues with oak softened acidity in the middle, and has a finish to die for. It is the equal of upscale Italians at twice the price. Body approaches full. Had it with grilled loin lamb chops last night and it married splendidly. It is also the kind of wine you pull and quaff when a special friend stops by. Right now it is our favorite (non layed down) wine.
