Prosecco di Valdobbiadene

My Dad has a magnum of this stuff (vintage '98). He has been storing it in our kitchen (I know, probably the WORST place for it), and standing upright, moreover. Do you think it has gone bad? The front label just reads: Prosecco, Primo Franco. The back says what I printed in the subject box. The only thing I know is that it is sparkling wine. What is Prosecco? Is this bottle any good?
