Basically Laura, you pay for the wines after the 1st of the year after harvest. In a "Hot" vintage like 2000 it assures you of getting the wines and the prices are normally lower than when they arrive for sale in 2 years. Normally the 1st offering ( en primuer ) is the cheapest and the pricing keeps rising with each futures offering. They use your money for 2 years, you save on the wines you want. The one caveat is that most of the time you can buy the wines for about the same price when they arrive here for sale as you paid for them as futures.
