2004 Bogle Vinyards, California, Petite Sirah ($10.99 NH Liq Store). We haven't had a tread on this baby lately, so what the hay. You may find it as low as eight something, but here it is right around ten in the state store and twelve in the super market. Alcohol level is 13.5%. This is just about as consistant a wine year in and year out as one can find, and a winner every year.

The '04 (like the '03, '02, et al) gives you a blast of red raspberries, black raspberries, and peppery spice on the nose and upfront. More fruit, spice, PS conplexity, and chewy tannin across the middle; then a lingering finish. You don't even notice the tannin if you have a hunk of lamb in your mouth!

Matched it with grilled lamb leg steaks marinated in lemon/mint mayonaise; white beans in tomato, EVOO, and Herbs de Provence; and salad with EVOO and Balsamic vinegar. Now that's a yum, yum Wednesday night!

Agreed.

I've been diggin' the 03 "Phantom"
(a blend of petite sirah, zinfandel and mourvèdre) Lovely sweet cherry and cranberry, with a nice pipe tobacco finish. A little more $ at 13.50, but pretty special. Did need an hour or two to open up.

Brought two bottles of the '04 to daughter's house yesterday for Easter. Matched it with roast leg of lamb (no mint jelly!)with gravy, Flageolets en casserole, carrots, and potato bread. Everything was great.

The Bogle is one of two or three PSs that is approachable on release. It is nice to know when you have some Petite Sirah aging down in the celler, that you can run to the store to get some to drink now.
