Invited to an informal dinner and have been asked to bring a bottle of red wine. The hosts are admittedly not wineophiles. Would my 1997 glen ellen merlot still be decent?

Hi Dandy. This bottle mite end up embarrassing you as 10 to 1 it's over the hill. Spend 5 or 6 bucks and buy the current release. WW

Godzilla the merlot your friend opened was probably from one of the premier Napa producers . The wine inquired about is a 5-6 dollar bottle that's meant to be drunk on release. Even the best Merlots don't have the staying power of the top Cabernets. The 90-something was probably a LATE 90's something. WW
