There is a new Italian Wine Store at 143 E. 27th Street, called Vino. Isn't this a little close to Foodie's new place? Does this mean Italian wars?

Nah, that's 22 blocks away--more than a mile, which in Manhattan is like leaving one state and entering another.

Also, our focus is not only Italian. We intend about 60 percent of our stock to be made up of wines that we search for ourselves, from anywhere in the world, that you cannot easily find elsewhere in NYC--and from $7 to $12 a bottle retail.

Were you just in the city? I'll be there week of July 10, to get business arrangements back on track--some lawyers are wasting our time and money.

The more serious competition is Astor Place Wine and Spirits, I would think.

In any case, Foodie, let us know your base of operation while you're on our fair Island. I'll try to stop by.

P.S. I'll check out Vino, but I surmise by the address -- and I'll find this out for sure -- that it might be connected to the wine bar Enoteca I Trulli and the Restaurant I Trulli. Great places both, with great wine lists, specializing in -- but not limited to -- southern Italian wines. For example, I ran across Copertino for the first time at Enoteca.

Scoop, just yesterday I bought myself half a case of Apollonio Copertino, at $7 each--a steal.

My base while in the city, if not at 225 E 5th, then at Black Star Bar, on east side of Second Ave, three doors in from Fifth Street. That's my partner's bar.

I'll give you a heads-up before I leave here.
