2001 Simonsig Estate, Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch, SA ($10.99 SHWC). This is the best fresh New World SB we have ever had. The eye is met with straw colored liquid with a green hue. A blast of tropical fruit with undercuts of herbs and grass on the nose and upfront, translates to bonedry, mouthfilling flavor on the palate. All followed by a completely refreshing finish. Nary a trace of oak. Matched incredibly with take out fried native shrimp baskets. Far, far superior to what was available eating in. Will be ordering more of this immediately.

I'm totally ignorant of SA wines. I don't know why I have never explored the region.

Probably because, until recently, there wasn't much of decent quality available here.

My last order included the 2002 vintage of this one. The price held, though I have seen it creep up little on other imports. The '02 was just as nice, if not better, than the '01. Looking forward to finishing the rest of the half box. Matched with broiled sea scallops, roast new potatoes, and salad.

This was my birthday wine tonight. Had it with Maine shrimp scampi on toast points, and spinach. Very nice, but finished it before the slice of Death By Chocolate that True Love got for me. All simply wonderful. Great wine.

Carried three bottles to a special event last night. The SW drinkers had a. never had a wine from SA before and b. had never had a better SB. Good time was had by all.
