Hubby and I were shopping the other day, stopped in at a book store and bought "Wine for Dummies" ( a good book for novices, I think).

We were looking at cookbooks, we are wanting to find something that has foods that pair wine and foods, and hopefully is low-fat, low cholesterol.
Does anyone here know of some books to recommend? I know that Foodie has written one, am planning on ordering it (the garlic, wine and oil book, not sure of title, we love to cook with garlic), but are there others?

After reading some of the latest medical studies AFA cholesterol intake, I don't worry about intake. I'll keep using my French cookbooks oozing with Mr. Cholesterol...

yeah, I once worried about cholesterol too. But like the studies on wine and health, there is so much backpaddling on old information.

I simply take this new approach: can't live forever, might as well just live in pleasure.
Yet, many of the recipes in my book are low cholesterol--but not necessarily low fat.

Seriously if you want some good titles look for Martha Rose Shulman's books. Some older titles we have are "Mediterranean Light" and "Provencal Light." Both are excellent and are of the sort you are looking for. Most recipes go well with wine too.

I have the Provencal Light, too. It's a great book, so I guess I second that one.

I somehow managed to destroy an almost completed post, so I'll just provide some links instead of the book reviews I'd labored over. You'll get the same ideas, anyway. Bon apetit!

dear curious- another good book to look up is " The French Culinary Institute's Salute to Healthy Cooking". It is low in fat and calories but still manages to produce good tasting food. Each recipe is followed by a breakdown of calories, fat, sat. fat, and cholesterol per serving. Best of luck and have fun! WD
