This was a great P/Q Aussie Tawny, with a deep color that was somewhere between a tawny brown and purple (considerably darker than our other favorite, Hardy's Whiskers Blake). Intense flavors of raisins, toffee, caramel, and nuts (hazelnuts?). Long finish reminded me of that juice inside chocolate cordials. Paid about $14 for it locally at Whole Foods, but it can be found for as little as $8 elsewhere. FWIW, RP gave it a 93.

I love this one. I may have even posted on it in the past. Almost a cross between a ruby and a tawny. Has a color and consistency of slightly used motor oil. Wonderful port and especially for the price.

Had this last night...fantastic and unusual stuff.
anyone know why it's only 10 bucks?
I mean it's supposed to be average of 46 years old. and judging by color and mellowness it seems that old.

why is is $10 retail?

Gonna buy me 1/2 a case to throw in my closet and pull out whenever company comes... Aussies sure know what to do with Tawny port.... (Dannane, Whiskers is a favorite of mine, too. Seems like we have similar tastes in port...)

Drew, do you know why the Jonesy is so inexpensive since it's so old?

I may have some of this "port" on hand myself. I was drinking some Ports to post on another forum during "Port" month but didn't get to all of them. Just a guess, but I'm thinking that some of these ports in Australia come from vineyards that have been planted for decades and so you don't have the current cost of buying land and planting new vines, etc. and also they may have large production so they can afford economies of scale and keep the prices down. I wonder the same thing about some shiraz and Pillar Box Red, etc.--how can they even ship it to the USA for $10?
