I was so looking forward to this bottle that a friend had brought over. The problems started with a cork that was impossible to pull out. It was completely dry but remained stubbornly in place.

The wine while okay, was definitely more oxided than it should have been. Vibrancy and the delicacy of the wine was not apparent. Is this a sign of a wine that's been stored improperly, most likely standing up for the last 20 years of its life?

Would appreciate your comments on this.

Stored poorly at least for the last 10. I have a 1990 still snoring.

Sounds either like bad storage or a cork that did not seal properly.

I actually wrote the wrong vintage...it was the 1990 in fact. The colour was tea, which is okay for a 20 year old bottle. Thanks, my friend has gone back to return the remaining bottles that he bought.
