2003 7 Deadly Zins Zinfandel

Really like this vintage. Came screaming right out of the gate. Spicy raspberry and blackberry flavors showing both the lush and berry side of zin. Some chocolate notes and hints of earthy briar become evident on the long finish. Also displayed some jamminess but not as much as the Dry Creek Old Vines. Very enjoyable. No heat detected from the 14.9% Alc/vol. $17

Sounds like you are enjoying a zinful life on the beach this year.

We drink more zin during the summer than any other wine. Seems to pair well with the type of grilled fare that we have with all the spicy rubs we put on pork tenderloin, steak fish, steaks and chicken. We're not much on bbq sauces but I overflow with rubs.

Had a chance to meet the owner/winemaker of the 7 Deadly, Mike Phillips and his wife. Very nice couple. Mike is salt-of-the-earth, very focused and a XCZ#@ good winemaker, one of Lodi's best. With all that heat and bombastic fruit, he keeps it all in balance somehow.

Have you tried any of their "Earthquake" line? Extremely good juice, especially the Cab (after being open for about a day!) and the Petite Syrah.

Speaking of Cali, I'm off to SF/Sonoma this afternoon.

I love his stuff! Even his Windmill product is very nice! When tasted side to side, yes, the prices do definitely justify themselves (and they are a great value!) in terms of the increase.
