If you've not tried it yet, as I had not until last night at Les Zygomates in Boston, do yourself a favor- 1997 Elyse Zinfandel, Coeur de Val, Napa. This was the first night they offered it and I was quite impressed. Serious cantelope finish, smooth as a baby's --- and unfolded beautifully in a very short time. Hotwine, you need to try it!

ChefMax, Elyse is an extremely talented provider of top-flight Zins. Haven`t tried the coeur de val but will. They make a killer from the Beatty ranch on Howell Mtn. Haven`t seen the 97 release yet. winoweenie

I was at Elyse in May and they were already into the 1998 Coeur du Val as was one of the Denver wine stores in July. The '97 may not be available, which is too bad as the '98, while ripe, fruity, and tasty, is not all that complex or interesting. If there is some of the '97 available I'd love to hear about it. Only have one bottle.

Just south of Culpepper Virginia is this small, simple, family owned and operated vineyard/winery by the name of Burnely.

Their Zinfandel is pretty darn good.

Not all good zin comes from cali or from oz, some actually comes from Virginia!! Try it, you might like it!

Elyse has always been one of my favorite Zinfandel producers, but extremely difficult to find at retail.

Re, Virginia and other Zinfandel production: South Africa claims to produce quality variations of the wine; I have yet to find one I thought measured up.
