Ridge has been making great wines from this old vine Dry Creek vineyard for 30 years. Not sure when they purchased the vineyard but know the 74, 78, and 79 vintages by Lutton Springs under that label were 3 of the greatest zins ever to cross my gums. This new model has to rank with those sensational wines. The Sonoma vineyard planted to a field blend of 70% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Syrah, 10% Carignane, and 3% Mataro, produced an inky-black, powerful, lush wine that will probably improve another 10-15 years. Incredibly intense and with a kick-fanny 5-lapper finish, this is the best zin from this property since the 78. Will let the rest of these suckers rest until my memory fades or I can't resist opening anudder-'un. WW 92/90.30 by the box.

I have a mag of the 99 LS (gift from another board member). Sounds like I'll be past my dotage by the time it's ready. Maybe I'll leave it to one of my wine loving kids.

Sounds like calgirl has a good idea. Give a nice gift to dad, to impress him. Knowing that she will probaly be the one to get it in the end.
