2005 Sutter Home, California, Zinfandel ($3.78 Navy Exchange). Remember when this was a decent wine? We were in the Exchange at the Portsmouth Navy Yard picking up some cooking wines (Dry Vermouth, Sake, etc), and needed an inexpensive red to make Boeuf a la Mode. Saw the price on this one and grabbed it. It is only $.21 more in our state package stores.

After getting the stew into crockpot Saturday night, I stuck the cork back in the bottle and put it in the fridge. We let it warm up and drank it with leftovers last night. It was definitely not its old self, but palatable. A bygone era.

I used to think it was decent too but I don't know if it is that the wine has changed or that my palate has changed over the years.
