Washington wines in "Drinks" Magazine, Spring 2004

Was perusing this issue yesterday and saw that 1999 Snoqualmie Merlot was listed among 10 top Washington wines (I think list was intended to honor different varietals and price ranges, but I was glad to see the recognition for Joy Andersen's winemaking skills.) Article was interesting in light of next summer's planned offline in Washington State. Quotes winemakers from Stimson Lane, Covey Run, and others.

Same issue had an article on New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and a list of ten top S.B. wines (mostly ones I've never tried).

I applaude the efforts to improve but Snoqualmie wines are still too oaked for my palate.

I believe it was Stevebody who said that Joy would use no new wood if she could but corporate interests think the wine is more "sellable" with the woody influence (or are you the one that said that Bucko?) The sample I had was very good and not too woody but I haven't seen the wine around yet to purchase a bottle. I think some Raleigh-area wine shops may have it. I would like to try the Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend.
