2002 Mount Riley Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough

Sampled this at a family meal of Turkey and Trimmings. This was 1 of 4 wines that we had open for the meal. The other 3 were a Sohn german spatlese reisling, Cartledge and Browne Pinot and a 1997 Rutherford Cabernet. The Cabernet was still very tannic and took a couple of hours to open up and become even passably drinkable, a major disappointment for a 97. So the definite keeper of the 4 was the SB.

The Mount Riley is unoaked, with lively mango, melon and citrus (lime) flavors...crisp acidity...an excellent wine.
Although it is $14.00, it is a nice white for those of us who favor the NZ unoaked style of SBs. The Wine Spectator rated this at 89 and I'd say that is pretty accurate in my book...(I'd rate it higher (90-91), but I have a hard time doing that to whites that don't have cellaring potential). Regardless, this is a very nice wine that I'd highly recommend...
